Mustangs down No. 47 Dallas Baptist, 8-1

ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 20 Midwestern State earned its second ranked win of the season Saturday afternoon as the Mustangs recorded an 8-1 victory over No. 47 Dallas Baptist at the Arlington Tennis Center.

With a pair of wins over the Lady Patriots, senior Lauren Pineda climbed to fifth on the all-time wins list to push her career total to 112 victories. Pineda also tallied her 67th career doubles win to move into a tie for fourth in the program record books.

Midwestern State (11-5) swept its way through doubles play before taking five singles wins in straight sets to earn the 8-1 win over Dallas Baptist (7-7). No. 27 Maddie Schorlemmer posted her 10th singles win in dual play to clinch the match for the Mustangs and push her combined career win total to 99 victories. Schorlemmer will get the opportunity to become the eighth Mustang to reach 100 career wins Wednesday at 2 p.m. against Tarleton State in Stephenville.

Schorlemmer and freshman Greta Lazzarotto put the Mustangs in front early with an 8-4 win at No. 3 to claim their seventh-straight victory and improve to 14-2 on the season. The duo of Pineda and junior Abby White added to the MSU lead on court two with an 8-4 win before the 23rd-ranked pair of senior Lindsay Nochowicz and freshman Eirini Kontaki completed the sweep with an 8-3 win at No. 1.

White cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles before Schorlemmer recorded the clincher at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-4 win. Lazzarotto also reached 10 wins on the season with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 3 position while Nochowicz earned a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 5. Pineda improved to a team-best 11-2 record on the season, posting a 6-4, 6-3 win on court four to extend the Mustangs advantage to 8-0.

DBU earned its lone point of the afternoon with Liz Slaughter escaping with a super tiebreaker win over Kontaki at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 4-6, 12-10.
