Toyos earns pair of victories in Mustangs loss to SOSU

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Junior Ramon Toyos picked up a pair of wins against Southeastern Oklahoma State, but the 24th-ranked Savage Storm dealt No. 11 Midwestern State a 6-3 defeat Monday evening at the MSU Tennis Center.

Southeastern Oklahoma State handed the Mustangs their fourth loss in the last five matches while improving to 13-2 on the season. Midwestern State fell to 13-8 on the year.

The Savage Storm took two of three doubles matches and claimed three straight-set wins in singles play en route to the clincher with 45th-ranked Max Fil posting a 6-4, 7-5 victory over No. 44 Kyle Davidson at the No. 1 position.

The duo of Petar Popovic and Mislav Colak helped the Savage Storm take a 2-1 advantage following a 9-7 victory over Chris Norrie and Daniel Gallivoda at No. 3 doubles. The 19th-ranked tandem of Davidson and Toyos put Midwestern State ahead 1-0 with an 8-4 win on court one before the Savage Storm answered with an 8-4 win of their own at No. 2.

SEOSU increased its lead to 4-1 after Jack Gibbens defeated Dillon Pineda, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 4 position and Alberto Blesa handed Norrie a 6-3, 6-2 defeat at No. 3 singles.

Toyos ended the SEOSU win streak at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Netanel Alcabas to cut the MSU deficit to 4-2.

Following Fil's clincher, Colak earned a super tiebreaker win over Benjamin Neander on court five with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 result before Dylan Hall concluded the match for the Mustangs with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 win over Tiago Ferreira at No. 6 singles.

Midwestern State battles No. 12 Cameron in a matchup of the top two teams in the South Central Region Wednesday at the MSU Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
