AUSTIN, Texas – Junior Abby White posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles to clinch a 5-4 win for No. 20 Midwestern State over No. 41 St. Edward's Friday afternoon at the Strohmeyer Varsity Tennis Courts.

Midwestern State (15-7) earned a much-needed victory over regional foe St. Edward's, who appeared just in front of the Mustangs at No. 3 in yesterday's South Central Regional rankings released by the NCAA. The top four teams in the region will advance to the NCAA postseason.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 2-1 advantage following doubles play with White and senior Maddie Schorlemmer earning the first point of the match with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Freshman Greta Lazzarotto earned her team-high 20th win of the season, teaming up with sophomore Amy Clifton for a win on court two after claiming the final three games for an 8-6 triumph.

St. Edward's (14-6) got on the board with a win at No. 1 doubles with Anjali Sampath and Marissa Williams defeating the 23rd-ranked duo of senior Lindsay Nochowicz and freshman Eirini Kontaki, 9-7.

Midwestern quickly stretched its lead to 4-1 with wins on the top two courts. Kontaki earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Ivana Zecevic before 27th-ranked Schorlemmer downed Sampath on court one, 6-0, 6-3.

The Hilltoppers evened up the match at 4-4 with wins at Nos. 3-5 including a pair of three-set victories before White's clincher over Elisa Guillen. With the win, White improved to a team-best 14-3 in singles this season.

Midwestern State closes out its Lone Star Conference regular season slate Monday when the Mustangs play host to Texas A&M-Kingsville at 10 a.m. at the MSU Tennis Center.
