EDMOND, Okla. – After suffering a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Tyler Junior College in their home opener yesterday, the No. 22 Midwestern State women's tennis team responded with a dominant 7-2 road win Saturday over Central Oklahoma. 

With the win, Midwestern State improved to 2-1 on the season with its second road victory of the year while snapping Central Oklahoma's (10-3) eight-match winning streak.

The Mustangs took a 2-1 lead following doubles play, earning wins at the No. 1 and 3 positions. Amy Clifton and Lauren Pineda teamed up to take down Alix Williams and Jenny Bond with an 8-3 win on court three before UCO countered with an 8-5 victory at No. 2. Eirini Kontaki and Lindsay Nochowicz gave the Mustangs the edge heading into singles play with an 8-5 win over Kirtana Bhat and Emilie Semo on court one.

Pineda quickly extended the MSU lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 before Nochowicz posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court five. Greta Lazzarotto and Clifton followed by giving the Mustangs a 5-1 advantage with a pair of straight-set wins. Lazzarotto took a 6-3, 6-2 win on court three to clinch the match for MSU before Clifton tallied a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 2 position.

No. 37 Maddie Schorlemmer stretched the MSU lead even further with a win at No. 1 with a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 win over Alli Hodges, the sixth-ranked player in the Central Region.

UCO closed out the match with its second point of the day as Jenny Bond came away with a 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 victory over Alexis Arrieta at No. 6.
