Mustangs record pair of sweeps in Colorado

PUEBLO, Colo. – No. 11 Midwestern State men's tennis collected a pair of 9-0 sweeps Friday as the Mustangs downed South Central Region foe Colorado State-Pueblo and NCAA Division III Colorado College at the Pueblo City Park Tennis Complex.

Midwestern State (9-4) began the day against CSU-Pueblo, earning a quick doubles sweep that began with an 8-0 victory on court three for junior Chris Norrie and freshman Radu Popa. Senior Zack Santagate and freshman Dillon Pineda added an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles before the 19th-ranked duo of senior Kyle Davidson and junior Ramon Toyos completed the sweep with an 8-4 win at the No. 1 position.

The Mustangs dominated the ThunderWolves in singles play as CSU-Pueblo (4-13) was only able to claim 10 games across all six courts in MSU's 9-0 victory.

Midwestern carried that momentum over into the match against Colorado College (6-8) with a pair of 8-1 doubles wins in addition to an 8-0 victory to take an early 3-0 lead on the Tigers.

After freshman Benjamin Neander posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles, Popa earned the clincher for the Mustangs at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-0 decision.

The Mustangs tallied straight-set wins across the board in singles play with Norrie making an appearance on court one for the Maroon and Gold and Santagate making his first singles showing this season at No. 6.

Midwestern State next takes on No. 27 St. Mary's (Texas) in a neutral site meeting Saturday, April 2 at 8 a.m. at the Kiest Tennis Center in Dallas.
