Mustangs fall to Tarleton State in Friday action

THE RUNDOWN

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State hit .337 with a team-high 13 kills for Hailey Roberts to hand Midwestern State a 3-0 loss Friday night at Wisdom Gym.
 
Tarleton State (21-5, 13-4 LSC) broke a 10-10 tie in the opening set thanks to a 4-0 run with Rebecca Schlorff capping off the TexAnns spurt with a pair of aces to force a Midwestern State (11-18, 5-12 LSC) timeout. Meghan Bettis pulled the Mustangs within a pair after a kill for a 17-15 score before Tarleton ended the frame on an 8-2 run with Roberts totaling three kills down the stretch to help the TexAnns to a 25-17 win.
 
After a Bettis service ace pulled the Mustangs within 8-7 in the second set, the TexAnns used an 11-5 run to distance themselves from MSU. Tarleton limited the Mustangs to a .067 hitting percentage in the frame while striking for a .355 attacking clip to record a 25-14 victory.
 
The TexAnns hit a match-best .387 in the third set to earn the sweep. Midwestern overcame an early 7-3 deficit in the set, taking the lead at 11-10 after an ace for Kristan Aduddell. However, Tarleton closed out the set on a 10-1 run with Adrianna Knutson serving for nine of the final 10 points to take a 25-15 win.

*Aerielle Edwards led Midwestern State in kills for the 15th time this season with 11 kills while also adding a team-best 10 digs for her fifth career double-double
*Sarah Garfield added five kills for the Mustangs
*Kristan Aduddell dished out 21 assists to pace MSU while finishing with eight digs
