THE RUNDOWN

SAN ANGELO, Texas – No. 10 Angelo State fended off a pesky Midwestern State squad in the first two sets before using an early run in the third frame to record a 3-0 sweep over the Mustangs Saturday afternoon at the Junell Center.

Midwestern State (11-19, 5-13 LSC) overcame an early three-point hole with kills for Meghan Bettis and Aerielle Edwards evening the set up at 7-7. The Rambelles claimed a 16-12 advantage after a 4-0 run before a kill and ace for Sarah Garfield cut the ASU lead in half. Midwestern State then evened the set again following a kill for Addison Semer to make it 17-all and force an Angelo State (27-2, 17-1 LSC) timeout. The Rambelles responded out of the quick break with a 4-0 spurt to create a cushion before recording a 25-19 win in the first set.

ASU held a slight lead over the Mustangs for a majority of the second set, never taking more than a three-point cushion until an MSU attack error gave the Rambelles a 15-11 lead. Midwestern inched within two on a number of occasions before ASU closed out the set on an 8-4 run to take another 25-19 victory.

Behind the serve of Mallory Blauser, the Rambelles began the third set on an 11-1 run with Blauser tallying three aces in that span. The Rambelles hit a match-best .379 in the frame while limiting the Mustangs to just a .059 percentage before going on to claim a 25-12 win.
