THE RUNDOWN

NORMAN, Okla. – Vionise Pierre-Louis led five Sooners in double figures with 17 points as No. 16/18 Oklahoma erased a first quarter deficit to earn a 110-47 exhibition win over Midwestern State Wednesday evening at Lloyd Noble Center.

Sophomore guard Anni Scholl connected on three triples in the opening 10 minutes to help Midwestern State take a 21-20 lead after the first quarter of play.

Oklahoma jumped out to an early 11-3 lead just over four minutes into the game before a pair of baskets by junior guard Whitney Taylor cut the MSU deficit in half. After Pierre-Louis converted a three-point play to give the Sooners an 18-10 lead, a pair of Scholl three-pointers sandwiched around a basket for senior forward Jennifer Arbuckle evened the contest at 18 apiece with 2:14 remaining. The Mustangs held OU to just one basket in the final 3:18 of the quarter while a Scholl triple with 1:29 to play gave MSU the one-point advantage after the first.

A 20-0 run in the first five minutes of the second period gave the Sooners a comfortable 41-21 lead after a three-pointer for Chelsea Dungee. A trey for freshman guard Leanna James ended the MSU drought at the 3:40 mark, providing the first points of the quarter for the Mustangs before OU went into the locker room with a 48-26 lead.

The Sooners continued to stretch their lead in the second half, erupting for 37 points in the third quarter for an 85-37 advantage.

A pair of free throws with 9:03 to play moved Scholl into double figures, finishing with a team-high 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the floor and a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc.
