WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Texas Woman's held Midwestern State to its second-lowest hitting percentage of the season with a .041 clip as the Pioneers earned a 3-0 sweep over the Mustangs Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Sara Oxford led Texas Woman's (8-17, 4-12 LSC) to a 25-17 opening set win after putting down four of TWU's 10 kills in the frame. A 5-1 run for the Pioneers forced a Midwestern State (11-17, 5-11 LSC) timeout after TWU pulled away to grab a 15-10 lead. The Pioneers extended their lead to as many as nine down the stretch before claiming the win to go in front 1-0 in the match.
TWU jumped out to an 8-4 advantage after an Oxford kill before a 5-1 run by the Mustangs evened the set up at nine apiece following an ace for
Kristan Aduddell. The Pioneers began to pull away midway through the set with a 7-2 spurt to take a 16-11 lead. Midwestern came back within three following a TWU attack error, but the Pioneers answered with a block and back-to-back kills from Oxford to extend their lead back out to five. A TWU hitting error and an Aduddell kill fended off a pair of TWU set points before Courtney Noel put down a kill to give the Pioneers a 25-22 victory.
TWU was able to pull out a close third set at 25-23 despite 10 hitting errors and a -.029 attacking clip. The Pioneers went in front early with a 6-0 run to force an MSU timeout. The Mustangs crept back within two points following an ace for
Sarah Glawe before TWU answered the MSU run to stretch the score back to five at 22-17. Following an MSU timeout, four attacking errors for the Pioneers helped the Mustangs pull within a point at 23-22 before a kill for Anna McGee gave TWU set point.
Aerielle Edwards answered on the ensuing play, but McGee held off MSU with a kill to claim the sweep.
