WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Junior outside hitter
Aerielle Edwards notched her second career double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs but it was not enough for Midwestern State as the Mustangs fell 3-0 to Tarleton State in a Saturday afternoon meeting at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Midwestern State (8-10, 3-6 LSC) opened the first set with a 4-1 lead with Edwards recording a kill and an ace to help the Mustangs gain some early momentum. After the TexAnns evened up the set, neither team was able to put together a large run as the Mustangs answered every Tarleton State (14-2, 7-1 LSC) push for a majority of the opening frame. After an
Addison Semer kill brought the Mustangs to within two at 18-16, Tarleton went ahead by four after kills from Hailey Roberts and Autumn Taylor to pull away down the stretch and record a 25-20 win.
After a close second set early on, Tarleton stretched its lead to as many as four at 15-11 before the Mustangs answered with a Semer kill and a block by Semer and Edwards to cut the MSU deficit in half. Following a Tarleton timeout, the TexAnns put together a quick 3-0 spurt to take a 22-17 lead on the Mustangs before a Roberts ace gave the visitors another 25-20 win in set two.
The TexAnns claimed an 11-5 lead on the Mustangs in the third set to set the stage early and control the momentum throughout the set. A service ace for
Kristan Aduddell capped off a 3-0 run for MSU to pull the Mustangs within three before Tarleton went on a 7-1 run to take a comfortable 19-10 lead. The TexAnns then recorded the final six points of the match to earn a 25-14 victory and take the sweep over the Mustangs.
