THE RUNDOWN
ODESSA, Texas – Gabriel Cavalcante and 
Jorge DeLeon each tallied two goals to lead No. 18 Midwestern State to a dominant 5-0 win over UT Permian Basin Saturday afternoon at UTPB Turf Field.
 
Midwestern State (9-2-1, 7-1-0 HC) took little time before grabbing a lead in the opening period with Cavalcante firing a shot from inside the box off a DeLeon pass for a 1-0 MSU advantage in the eighth minute.
 
DeLeon gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead heading into the locker room with a shot off a corner kick from 
Flavio Guzman in the 26th minute of play.
 
Less than 10 minutes into the second period, Midwestern stretched its lead to 3-0 with Cavalcante gaining control of a loose ball off a 
Ross Fitzpatrick pass and finding the back of the net. A short time later, the Mustangs added their fourth score of the contest with DeLeon sending a shot into the net off another Guzman corner.
 
The Mustangs rounded out their scoring in the 80th minute with 
Antonio Hernandez sending a shot into the top right corner of the net off a pass from 
Jacob Hernandez for a 5-0 final.
 
Noah Fazekas collected three saves, all coming in the second period, to keep UT Permian Basin (3-6-2, 3-3-2 HC) from lighting up the scoreboard and earn the shutout.
