WICHITA FALLS, Texas – A pair of late strikes from freshman
Adrianna Smith and senior
Nicole Coetzer propelled Midwestern State to a season sweep of UT Permian Basin Friday evening with a 2-0 shutout of the Falcons at MSU Soccer Field.
Midwestern State (8-5-2, 5-4-0 LSC) was unable to push one across in the opening period despite creating several good looks at the net with 13 shots, four of which were on goal.
Smith tallied the game-winning goal against UT Permian Basin (1-12-1, 1-9-0 LSC) for the second time this season with a shot from the top of the box into the right corner of the net following a double assist from Coetzer and junior
Destinee Williamson in the 73rd minute.
The Mustangs struck again six minutes later with Coetzer recording her fourth score of the season with a shot from the right side of the box off a pass from freshman
Hanna Mattinson for a 2-0 score.
The MSU defense held the Falcons without a shot until the 69th minute as UTPB managed just two shots for the night.

*Midwestern State recorded its sixth shutout of the season while holding UT Permian Basin to an MSU opponent-low two shot attempts with none on goal
*The Mustangs recorded their seventh game-winning goal past the 70th minute of play this season
