FOR STARTERS
The Mustangs moved to 3-0 on the season Thursday night with a dominant 8-1 victory over Southern Nazarene (Okla.). Midwestern finished with 53 shots, the most since the 1998 season, while limiting the Crimson Storm to just five shot attempts. The Mustangs also held an advantage in shots on goal, 27-2, and corner kicks, 15-1.
 
Midwestern had a balanced offensive attack with eight different goal scorers and six players that recorded assists. Junior forward Garvin Samaroo led the Mustangs with four points on one goal and two assists while sophomore forward Erick Chapa added three points for MSU.
 
ELDER BECOMES ALL-TIME WINNINGEST COACH IN PROGRAM HISTORY
- Following Thursday's win, Midwestern State head coach Doug Elder became the all-time winningest coach in program history with his 222nd win
- Elder passed his former coach Howard Patterson to move to the top of the record books. Patterson finished with a 221-85-20 record (.709) in his 17 seasons (1973-89) at MSU
- Now in his 16th season at Midwestern, Elder holds a career record of 222-51-28 (.784)
- Elder's career winning percentage of .784 currently ranks first among active NCAA Division II coaches
 
MUSTANGS CRACK TOP 10 IN FIRST NSCAA POLL
- Midwestern climbed 11 spots from its preseason ranking to No. 9 nationally in the first National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II poll
- The Mustangs rank first in the South Central Region ahead of No. 12 Colorado State-Pueblo and No. 22 St. Edward's (Texas)

- Ouachita Baptist enters Sunday's match with a 1-2 record on the season
- The Tigers earned a 3-1 season-opening win over Oklahoma Christian before falling to No. 19 Christian Brothers (Tenn.), 2-1, and Rogers State, 4-0
- Sophomore forward Tinashe Chigede leads OBU with two goals on the season
- Sophomore midfielder Marcellus Hill and junior midfielder Sewell Yost have also recorded goals for the Tigers
