Mustangs rattle St. Mary's 9-0 for third straight win

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 14 Midwestern State cruised to its 24th straight home win Thursday afternoon by thumping 35th-ranked St. Mary's (Texas) 9-0 at the MSU Tennis Center.

The Mustangs, who improved to 13-5 on the season by claiming their third consecutive victory, play host to 34th-ranked St. Edward's (Texas) Friday morning. First serve is set for 10 a.m.

MSU also continued its run of dominance over STMU improving to 13-0 in its overall series with the Rattlers dating back to the 2001 season.

Senior Tomas Grejtak teamed with sophomore Ramon Toyos keyed a sweep of doubles play by taking an 8-5 win over Adam Dockery and Brien Galon at the No. 1 positions while Kacper Boborykin and Kyle Davidson and Chris Norrie and Zack Santagate rolled to 8-1 wins at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.

Sophomore Keegan Sullivan survived the lone split set challenge of the day at No. 6 singles outlasting St. Mary's Johsn Mosseri 4-6, 6-4, 10-3.

Boborykin claimed his fifth consecutive win at No. 1 singles while improving to 4-3 against regionally ranked opposition with a 6-2, 7-6 win over Michael Maciel, who carried the region's No. 5 singles ranking into the match.

Davidson improved to 5-2 against regionally-ranked foes downing No. 14 Adam Dockery 7-6, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.

Toyos peeled off his fifth consecutive win and ninth in the last 10 taking a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Aldo Maldonado at No. 3, while Norrie won for the third straight time taking a 6-2, 6-3 result over Rich Foley at No. 4.

Freshman Matt Tyer also rolled to his third consecutive win in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 5 position.

St. Mary's fell for the sixth time in the last eight matches to go to 5-7 on the season.
