WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 15-ranked Midwestern State dominated for its fourth straight victory Sunday afternoon rolling to a 6-3 win over No. 28 Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) at the MSU Tennis Center.
The Mustangs improved to 7-2 on the season and to a perfect 4-0 against NCAA Division II competition while sending OBU to a 5-2.
Sophomores
Ramon Toyos and
Chris Norrie also extended their individual winning streaks to four consecutive matches.
Toyos rolled past Ouachita Baptist's Maciej Braciszewicz 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot to improve to 6-3 in singles' play this season, while Norrie improved to 8-1 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Jason Mcchali at the No. 5 position.
Freshman
Matt Tyer won his third consecutive match rolling to a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Andre Stefano at No. 6, while junior
Kyle Davidson survived a loss in the opening set to Victor Oliveira at No. 2 and recovered for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory.
Ouachita Baptist's Marko Boskovic and Oliveira upset 17th-ranked Davidson and
Zack Santagate 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles' position, but the Mustangs rallied to take a 2-1 edge into singles play.
Toyos and senior
Tomas Grejtak doubled up Mechali and Braceiszewicz 8-4 at No. 2 while
Kacper Boborykin teamed with Norrie for an 8-3 win over Stefano and Lennart Lonneman at No. 3.
The Mustangs clinched the match by claiming four wins on the singles side.
Midwestern plays host to Metropolitan State (Colo.) Friday morning at the MSU Tennis Center. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
