No. 15 Mustangs win fifth straight, tame Tigers 8-1

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 15 Midwestern State rolled to its fifth consecutive win taking an 8-1 result over East Central (Okla.) Saturday morning at the MSU Tennis Center.

The Mustangs improved to 8-2 on the season including a 5-0 run against NCAA Division II competition.

MSU puts the mark to the test with its annual Spring Break trip this week. The Mustangs take on No. 1-ranked West Florida on Tuesday before taking No. 20 Georgia College on Wednesday and No. 8 Saint Leo (Fla.) on Thursday.

Midwestern returns home to take on Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday, March 25.

The Mustangs permitted East Central  a lone win at the No. 1 doubles position as Marc and Alex Fillat teamed for a narrow 8-5 win over Kyle Davidson and Zack Santagate, but MSU rallied for victories at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions to take a lead into singles play.

Tomas Grejtak and Ramon Toyos improved to a perfect 7-0 by rolling to an 8-3 win over Max DeJuan and Marc Lerch at No. 2 while Kacper Boborykin and Chris Norrie combined for an 8-4 victory over Nate Kipping and Stefan Schodlbauer at No. 3.

The Mustangs dominated for straight set wins in five of six singles positions with the exception of freshman Matt Tyer outlasting Schodlbauer 6-2, 1-6, 10-4 at No. 6 for his fourth straight win.

Boborykin cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Marc Fillat at No. 1, while junior Kyle Davidson beat Alex Fillat 7-6, 6-2 at No. 2.

Toyos took his fifth consecutive win at the No. 3 spot with a 6-1, 6-2  decision over DeJuan, while Norrie also battled for his fifth straight win 6-2, 6-4 over Lerch at No. 4.

Keegan Sullivan defeated Adria Abella 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5.

East Central, the No. 9-ranked squad in the Central Region, fell to 3-6 on the season.
