SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Midwestern State got the better of two close doubles matches to turn the tide and come away with a 5-4 win over No. 20-ranked Drury (Mo.) Saturday afternoon at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
The Mustangs, who improved to 4-3 on the season, play host to Metropolitan State (Colo.) Friday morning at the MSU Tennis Center. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
Junior Madeline Schorlemmer and sophomore
Paige Boykin outlasted Drury's Modeil Ali and Larissa Karl 9-7 at No. 2 doubles while Kayla and
Carrie Casey edged Samanta Zambrano and Weronika Malicka 8-6 at No. 3 to give Midwestern a 2-1 edge coming out of doubles play.
The lead held up as the Mustangs split the six singles matches for a 5-4 win.
Kayla Casey took Ali in straight sets — 6-3, 6-3 — at the No. 1 spot, while sophomore
Courtney Anderson rolled past Lara Muller 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 and junior
Lindsay Nochowicz clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Malicka at No. 6.
Drury suffered its first loss of the season to fall to 8-1.
