SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Southwest Baptist's Lani Tuemmers squeaked past Midwestern State's
Lauren Pineda 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles to secure a 5-4 win for the Bearcats Friday afternoon at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
SBU improved to 5-0 after claiming a narrow win over the Mustangs for the second consecutive season.
MSU, which dropped to 3-3 on the season, takes on Drury (Mo.) Saturday at noon.
Southwest Baptist rolled out to a 2-1 edge after doubles' play as 4th-ranked Fanni Varga and Christina Zentai defeated Pineda and
Lindsay Nochowicz 8-2 at No. 1, while Tuemmers combined with Maria Josie Zehnder for an 8-1 win over MSU's Madeline Schorlemmer and
Paige Boykin at the No. 2 position.
The Mustangs rallied for a point at the No. 3 spot as Kayla and
Carrie Casey combined for an 8-0 blanking of Beatrix Federer and Zorana Jovanovic.
The teams split singles' decisions with MSU taking wins at No. 3 (
Courtney Anderson d. Zehnder 7-6, 6-2), No. 5 (Boykin d. Federer 6-0, 6-1) and No. 6 (Nochowicz d. Jovanovic 6-1, 6-1).

Kayla Casey 7-5, 6-1 and #14 Zentai d. Schorlemmer 6-2, 6-0) to set up the match decider between Tuemmers and Pineda at No. 4.
