WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 14-ranked Midwestern State continued its mastery over non-ranked Division II squads Wednesday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.
The Mustangs rolled to their 25th straight win over unranked Division II teams with an 8-1 over Northwest Missouri State to improve to 7-5 on the season.
MSU improved to 40-2 against such competition since
Scott Linn took over the program prior to the 2011 season.
The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Bearcats, who fell to 7-4 on the season.
Midwestern improved 3-0 at home this season with aggregate match score of 26-1 which also includes sweeps of Central Oklahoma and East Central (Okla.).
The Mustangs swept through doubles play with wins by
Kayla Casey and
Taylor Coffman at No. 1,
Lauren Pineda and
Lindsay Nochowicz at No. 2 and Madeline Schorlemmer and
Paige Boykin at No. 3.
MSU clinched the win with quick victories by Madeline Schorlemmer 6-0, 6-2 over Margaux Jaquet at No. 3 and by
Courtney Anderson 6-2, 6-1 over Vilune Sestokaite at No. 4.
Coffman improved to 7-2 in singles play with a 7-4, 6-4 win over Lorena Rivas-Jarolim at No. 2, while Boykin rolled to 9-3 on the season beating Stephanie Mannix 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5.
Nochowicz upped her campaign record to 8-3 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Marianne Hull at No. 6.
Northwest Missouri's Camila Quesada earned a hard-fought 6-4, 6-7, 10-4 win over MSU's
Kayla Casey at the No. 1 position to avert the shutout.
Midwestern State takes on NCAA Division III power Trinity (Texas) Friday in San Antonio before taking on Texas A&M-Kingsville in its Lone Star Conference opener Saturday in Kingsville.
