PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Midwestern State sent No. 26-ranked Georgia College to its second straight loss blasting the Bobcats 8-1 Wednesday afternoon at West Florida Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
The Mustangs (6-4) close out their spring break trip to Pensacola by taking on No. 3-ranked Saint Leo (Fla.) Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m.
Midwestern got a leg up by taking all three doubles matches as
Kayla Casey and
Taylor Coffman outlasted Camille Clausse-Pujo and Kristen Jones 9-7 at No. 1,
Lauren Pineda and
Lindsay Nochowicz beat Katie Krupp and Jena Kelly 8-3 at No. 2 and Madeline Schorlemmer and
Paige Boykin bounced Emma Niemi and Macy Polk 8-1 at No. 3.
Four of the six singles' matches went to split sets as the Mustangs battled to three of them.
Coffman bounced back from losing the first set 6-4 to Macy Polk at the No. 2 position then claimed 12 of the next 13 points (6-0, 6-1) to imrpove to 6-1 this season in singles play.
Schorlemmer won in straight sets beating Jones 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3, while
Courtney Anderson beat Kelly in a super tiebreaker in the third set 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.
Boykin dominated Niemi 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, while Nochowicz rolled past GC's Cristalei Polk 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 6.
Georgia College's Clause-Pujo ousted
Kayla Casey at the top singles spot 7-5, 5-7, 10-2 to give the Bobcats their only win of the morning.
GC fell to 8-3 on the season.
