Mustangs double up No. 20 Georgia College, 6-3

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- No. 15-ranked Midwestern State used a doubles' sweep to subdue No. 20 Georgia College 6-3 Wednesday morning at the West Florida's Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.

The Mustangs improved to 9-3 on the season and close out their spring break trip to Florida Thursday morning against 8th-ranked Saint Leo (Fla.). First serve is set for 9:30 a.m.

The 17th-ranked doubles tandem of juniors Kyle Davidson and Zack Santagate combined to defeat No. 21-ranked Yannick Hass and Vincent Castermans 8-3 at the No. 1 position.

Senior Tomas Grejtak and sophomore Ramon Toyos edged Jannik Kumbier and Taylor Powell 8-6 at the No. 2 spot, while senior Kacper Boborykin and sophomore Chris Norrie swept Mattia Campus and Kyle Kinsler 8-0 at No. 3 to give the Mustangs a 3-0 edge coming out of doubles.

Toyos put Midwestern on the brink of clinching by taking a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kumbier at the No.3 position. It was the seventh consecutive win for the Torrelavega, Spain native who improved to 9-3 in singles this season.

Boborykin and Davidson cinched the victory for the Mustangs with wins at the top two positions -- both in split sets.

Boborykin defeated the 22nd-ranked Hass 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 at No. 1, while 32nd-ranked Davidson beat Castermans 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. It was the fifth consecutive win for Davidson who improved to 8-3 playing at the two positions for MSU.

Sophomore Keegan Sullivan extended Campus to a third set before falling in a super tiebreaker 5-7, 7-5, 5-10 at No. 5, while Georgia College's Powell edged Tyer 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 at No. 6.

Georgia College fell to 7-4 on the season.
