TYLER, Texas -- No. 16 Midwestern State rallied to claim a split Monday afternoon rolling past Texas-Tyler 7-2 at the Summers Tennis Center.
The Mustangs improved to 2-1 on the season after falling to Tyler Junior College earlier in the morning.
UT-Tyler, who was ranked 18th in the ITA NCAA Division III preseason rankings, slipped to 0-2.
Midwestern takes on Hardin-Simmons Friday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.

Zack Santagate keyed a doubles' sweep for the Mustangs by edging UT-Tyler's Chris Wootten and Frankie Fischer 8-6 at No. 1 doubles while senior
Kacper Boborykin and freshman
Matt Tyer rolled to an 8-3 victory at No. 2 and sophomores
Ramon Toyos and
Chris Norrie rolled to an 8-0 win at No. 3.
Davidson was stretched to three sets at No. 1 singles before taking a 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 win over UT-Tyler's Daniel Budd at No. 1, while Boborykin took a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 2.
The Mustangs also claimed victories at the Nos. 5 and 6 positions with Norrie battling for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision over Ryan Elwood and sophomore
Keegan Sullivan taking Jack Puckey in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
The Patriots got on the board with a pair of singles' wins as Harry Kelleher beat Toyos 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 3 while Fischer outlasted redshirt freshman
Daniel Gallivoda 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 at No. 4.
