TUCSON, Ariz. -- Junior
Katelyn Vinson blasted three home runs to lead Midwestern State to a split in the final day of the NFCA Leadoff Classic Sunday at the Lincoln Park Complex.
The Mustangs finished 3-3 for the weekend bouncing back from a 3-1 setback to No. 13-ranked Missouri-St. Louis with an 11-4 drubbing of former Lone Star Conference foe Southeastern Oklahoma State.
Midwestern State returns to action for six games next weekend at West Texas A&M's Woodward Invitational in Canyon beginning with games against Metropolitan State (Colo.) and Chadron State (Neb.) Friday afternoon.
Vinson provided the Mustangs' only offense on a solo shot in the sixth inning in a 4-1 loss to Missouri-St. Louis as MSU left the bases loaded in the sixth and seventh innings allowing the Tritons to escape with the win.
Senior third baseman Kelly Schaefer paced MSU's eight-hit attack by going 2-for-4 with a double.
Sophomore
Tayler Jerrick took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the season allowing two earned runs on three hits in three innings. Sophomore Kaitlyn Holmes allowed a solo homer in the seventh inning as just one of only two she permitted in four innings of relief.
Midwestern erupted for seven runs in the first inning in the finale against Southeastern Oklahoma fueled by Vinson's three-run blast.

Paige Stevens delivered a two-run single to close out scoring in the top of the first.
Southeastern retaliated with a three-run homer by Sydney Kramer in the bottom of the inning before Vinson rocked her second consecutive homer to lead off the second.
MSU sophomore
Erin Knox roped a two-run triple to the left-field gap in the sixth inning, while
Shelby Carter tacked on an RBI-single to right in the seventh.
Stevens, Vinson and Wall had three hits each to pace MSU's 16-hit attack.
Holmes improved to 2-1 in the circle allowing four runs on nine hits in the complete game victory.
