MANSFIELD, Texas -- Midwestern State blasted three home runs to key an 8-3 win over Lubbock Christian Saturday morning in the finale of the North Texas Softball Bash at James McKnight Park.
It was the 10th straight win for the Mustangs, who improved to 13-4 on the season.
Junior outfielder
Haley Howerton belted her second homer of the season over the center field fence on a three-run shot to highlight a four-run fourth inning to give the Mustangs a 5-1 lead.
MSU tacked on three more runs in the fifth as senior shortstop
Katy Vandewater drilled her seventh homer of the season on a two-run run blast before sophomore
Katlyn Holmes launched her first homer of the year to left-center field to give the Mustangs an 8-1 advantage.
Lubbock Christian received all of its run production from center fielder Katlin Reed, who drove in a run in the second inning before blasting solo homers in the fifth and seventh innings. She finished the day 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs.
Holmes improved to 7-2 in the circle allowing three runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
Junior
Katelyn Vinson joined Vandewater and Holmes with two hits each as the Mustangs totaled eight hits.
Midwestern State swept weekend play at the North Texas Softball Bash by going 5-0 with two wins over Lubbock Christian and single victories over Texas-Permian Basin, Baker (Kan.) and Oklahoma Panhandle State.
MSU takes on Oklahoma Christian in a home opening doubleheader Tuesday at Mustangs Park. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
Lubbock Christian slipped to 9-5 on the season.
