SAN ANTONIO -- Midwestern State fell to Incarnate Word in a very close 6-1 match Friday afternoon at the Mabry Tennis Center.
The Mustangs, who fell to 3-2 on the season, take on Texas-Permian Basin Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
MSU survived two tiebreakers in doubles to claim the first point of the match as
Kyle Davidson and
Zack Santagate defeated Incarnate Word's Leonard Ivic and Philipp Raickovic 8-7 (5) at the No. 1 position while
Tomas Grejtak and
Ramon Toyos outlasted Josip Smoljan and Ryan Hoverson 8-7 (3) at No. 3.
Even the No. 2 doubles' spot proved just as competitive as UIW's Tucker Brown and Joey Vatanadilok edged Midwestern's
Kacper Boborykin and
Matt Tyer 8-6.
MSU pushed the Division I Cardinals to split sets in three of the six singles' contests, but UIW came out on top to claim the match and improve to 4-5 on the season.
Brown outlasted Toyos 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 while Raickovic and Hoverson claimed super tiebreakers by 10-8 margins over Tyer and
Chris Norries at the bottom two singles' slots.
