WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State's Madeline Schorlemmer bounced back to take a three-set win over Central Oklahoma's Alina Gorina 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 to secure a 9-0 win in the secason opener Saturday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.
The junior from Argyle claimed her first win at the No. 1 position after sitting out much of last season due to injury, but was originally pencilled in at the No. 3 spot.
The Mustangs altered the singles' lineup after jumping out to a commanding 3-0 lead after doubles play.
Kayla Casey and
Taylor Coffman rolled to an 8-3 win over Alina Gorina and Olga Burak at the No. 1 position, while
Lauren Pineda and
Courtney Anderson routed Emilie Semo and Anna Minakova 8-1 at the No. 2 spot.
Schorlemmer and
Paige Boykin finished off the doubles' sweep by taking an 8-5 decision over Lauren Allison and Natasa Brnovic at No. 3.
The Mustangs took straight set victories at the bottom five singles' positions with junior
Lindsay Nochowicz beating Burak at No. 2 6-2, 6-0, Pineda defeated Minakova 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3, Boykin rolled past Semo 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, freshman
Carrie Casey beat Brnovic 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Anderson eased by Armelie Moyna Lobel 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
Midwestern State takes on SMU Sunday afternoon in Dallas. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
Central Oklahoma fell to 1-2.
