Lasky, Knox lead Mustangs past Colorado State-Pueblo, 8-1

CANYON, Texas -- Midwestern State's Emily Lasky continued her tear at the plate and Erin Knox drilled a two-run home run to lift the Mustangs to a 8-1 win over Colorado State-Pueblo Saturday afternoon in WT's Woodward Invitational at Buffalo Sports Park.

MSU, which claimed its third consecutive win to improve to 6-4 on the season, closes tournament play Sunday against Colorado Mesa and Adams State (Colo.) at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.

Lasky drove in runs in her first two at bats against Thunderwolves delivering an RBI-single up the middle in the second inning before drilling a run-scoring double to center field in the fourth.

The sophomore from Lewisville recorded consecutive three-hit performance on Saturday following a 2-for-2 effort Friday against Chadron State (Neb.) to raise her season average to .727 (8-for-11) with three doubles and six RBIs.

The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead when senior third baseman Kelley Schaefer extended her hitting streak to seven games with a single to right field in the first inning to plate Haley Howerton, who reach on the first of three consecutive singles while stealing two bases.

Colorado State-Pueblo plated an unearned run in the second inning to pull within a run, but the Mustangs delivered a pair of three-run uprisings in the fourth and sixth frames to put the game away.

Knox blasted her first homer of the season over the left field fence for a two-run shot after Lasky reached on a ground-rule double.

Sophomore Katlyn Holmes improved to 4-1 in the circle weaving four innings of three-hit, scoreless relief after Tayler Jerrick allow an unearned run on three hits over the first three innings.
