CANYON, Texas -- Midwestern State competes in the 12-team Woodward Invitational this weekend at West Texas A&M's Buffalo Sports Park.

The Lone Star Conference vs. Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference challenge features 36 games with 12 games each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Mustangs take on Metropolitan State (Colo.) and Chadron State (Neb.) on Friday at 1:45 and 4 p.m., respectively, before battling Colorado Mines and Colorado State-Pueblo at 11:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. on Saturday.

MSU closes play Sunday against Colorado Mesa at 10:30 a.m. and Adams State (Colo.) at 3 p.m.

- Midwestern State went 3-3 at the season opening NFCA Leadoff Classic in Tucson, Ariz.
- Junior outfielder Katelyn Vinson (Southlake, Texas / Carroll SH) hit .389 with three homers and five RBIs during weekend play.
- Vinson connected on two homers in an 11-4 win over No. 4 Southeastern Oklahoma State on Sunday after striking for a solo shot earlier in the afternoon against 13th-ranked Missouri-St. Louis.
- Senior shortstop Katy Vandewater (Arlington, Texas / O'Connor HS (Weatherford College)) hit a home run in the season opener Friday against No. 3-ranked Dixie State then struck for a homer while driving in five RBIs in a 10-0 rout of Molloy (N.Y.) on Saturday.
- Junior first baseman Chelsey Wall (Keller, Texas / Keller HS) hit a team-high .417 but collected all of her hits in two games gonig 2-for-3 against Colorado State-Pueblo and 3-for-5 against Southeastern Oklahoma.
- Junior second baseman Shelby Carter (Celina, Texas / Celina HS) rides a five-game game hitting streak going 7-for-17 (.412) after posting an 0-for-3 in the opener against Dixie State.
- Carter hit her first homer of the season Saturday against Molloy (N.Y.).
- Sophomore pitcher Tayler Jerrick (Anaheim, Calif. / Kennedy HS (Tennessee-Martin)) spun a five-hit shutout in her MSU debut againt Molloy.
- Sophomore Katlyn Holmes (Gunter, Texas / Gunter HS) posted a 2-1 mark with a 4.38 ERA allowing 15 earned runs on 26 hits in 24 innings over the weekend.
