LAS VEGAS – Stonehill (Mass.) shot 51.9 percent (27-of-52) from the floor while knocking down eight three-pointers to build an early lead on the way to a 76-58 win over Midwestern State in the finale of the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic Saturday night at South Point Arena.
After trailing 6-5 early in the first quarter, Stonehill (7-4) closed out the opening period with a 22-4 run to build a 27-10 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play. Outside shooting helped propel the Skyhawks to a sizeable first half lead, knocking down 7-of-9 from long range while shooting 56.3 percent for a 46-17 lead at the break.
The Midwestern State (1-9) frontcourt recorded all of the Mustangs' 16 points in the third period with freshman forward Kendriana Washington tallying 10 points in the quarter. Washington finished with a season-high 20 points while adding eight rebounds to lead the Mustangs.

Kristin Rydell began a 16-4 run for the Maroon and Gold in the final 3:03 of the game to trim down a 30-point deficit.
Senior guard Paige Marshall paced the Skyhawks with 17 points, shooting a perfect 5-of-5 from three-point range while matching a team-high five boards. Freshman forward Maty Diabate added 14 points and five rebounds while junior guard Kelly Martin totaled 12 points and five boards.
Stonehill finished with a 57.1 percentage (8-of-14) from behind the arc while hitting 14-of-17 (82.4%) from the charity stripe for the game. Midwestern was held to just 38.3 percent (23-of-60) from the floor and 12.5 percent (2-of-16) from long range in the loss.
Midwestern State opens Lone Star Conference play Saturday, Jan. 2 with a trip to Denton to take on Texas Woman's at Kitty Magee Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
