Sarah Garfield rolled up a team-high 10 kills and dominated at the net with seven blocks to lift Midwestern State to a 25-19, 25-22, 25-17 sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma Saturday afternoon in the Hampton Inn-vitational at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
With the win, the Mustangs improve to 3-0 for the second consecutive season and close tournament play with a 4:30 p.m. showdown with Arkansas Tech later this afternoon.
Garfield closed strong for MSU putting down eight of her 10 kills over the final two sets, but it was junior
Kat Molloy that helped the Mustangs get out to a quick start by slamming down five of her eight kills in an opening set barrage.
Midwestern overcame a three-point deficit late in the second set and closed the frame on an 8-2 run to wrest away momentum from the Bulldogs to take a two-set advantage.
Junior outside hitter
Nicole Marzik narrowly missed a third consecutive double-double finishing with eight kills and 16 digs, while freshman outside hitter
Meghan Bettis notched an efficient seven-kill performance committing just one error in 18 attempts for a .333 attack percentage.
Senior libero
Casey Fletcher paced back row efforts with 20 digs as the Mustangs limited Southwestern Oklahoma State to a .063 team attack percentage.
Junior setter
Sarah Rosinke rolled up 33 set assists to go along with five digs to quarterback the MSU offense to a .207 team attack percentage.
Joey Collins led the Bulldogs with 13 kills while Carly Zak chipped in nine.
SWOSU dipped to 1-2 on the season.
