Mustangs use all-around effort to beat Fort Lewis, 3-1

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State used a solid overall effort to subdue Fort Lewis 25-11, 22-25, 25-11, 25-20 Friday night in the Hampton Inn-vitational at D.L. Ligon Coliseum to improve to 2-0.
 
The Mustangs, who fought back for a five-set victory over Colorado State-Pueblo Friday morning, close out its portion of tournament Saturday against Southwestern Oklahoma State at 11:30 a.m. and Arkansas Tech at 4:30 p.m.
 
Senior Kat Molloy delivered an all-around effort with 12 kills and seven total blocks while freshman outside hitter Meghan Bettis paced the attack with 13 kills while committing just three errors for a .345 attack percentage.
 
The Mustangs hit .241 or better as a team in each of the four sets, but it was defense that allowed Midwestern to blitz the Skyhawks 25-11 in the opening set then matched the score again in the third.
 
Overall, Fort Lewis struggled to a .096 team hitting percentage as the Mustangs finished with 10 total team blocks, while senior libero Casey Fletcher led back row play with 29 digs. Sophomore Madelyn Johnson added 15 digs while junior Nicole Marzik notched her second double-double of the day finishing with 11 kills and 12 digs.
 
Sophomore setter Sarah Rosinke notched 41 set assists, while pitching in eight digs and two blocks. She directed the Mustangs to a .303 overall team hitting percentage.
 
Freshman right-side hitter Addison Semer added 10 kills of her own after putting down a team-high 15 earlier in the day against Colorado State-Pueblo.
 
Stephanie Sonka paced the Skyhawks' attack with 10 kills, while Ally Dell'Amico had 24 digs.
 
Fort Lewis dropped to 1-1 on the season.
