Midwestern State takes on No. 1-ranked West Texas A&M in the South Central Region 1 final Sunday afternoon at Schaeffer Park.
The Mustangs must win the 1:30 p.m. meeting to force the if necessary game set for 4 p.m.
The winner moves on to face the winner of South Central Region 2 next week in a best-of-3 Super Regional.
ABOUT THE SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL 1
A four-team field including West Texas A&M, Texas Woman's, Metro State (Colo.) and Midwestern State square off in a double elimination tournament Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Schaeffer Park in Canyon. The winner advances to play the winner of the South Central Regional 2 including Angelo State, St. Mary's (Texas), Cameron (Okla.) and St. Edward's (Texas) in a best-of-3 Super Regional at the site of the highest remaining seed.

- West Texas A&M advanced to the South Central Region 1 finals by claiming wins over Midwestern State (6-2) and Metro State (13-5 in 5 innings) to improve to 32-1 on its home field.
- West Texas A&M leads NCAA Division II in homers per game (1.66) and team slugging percentage (.657).
- Junior outfielder Renee Erwin leads the WT attack hitting .482 with 18 doubles and 17 homers while driving in 69 runs.
- Erwin is just one of three players with 17 home runs this season for West Texas A&M joining senior third baseman Jessica Sipe (.391, 13 2B, 17 HR, 65 RBI) and junior infielder Allie Cranfill (.361, 15 2Bs, 18 HRs, 70 RBI).

- The Mustangs are 3-2 against WT in NCAA Division II postseason play claiming a 6-0 win over the Lady Buffs in regional play on May 16, 2010. MSU took two of three from West Texas A&M to advance to the World Series in 2011.

Kelley Schaefer extended her season-best hitting streak 11 games by going 3-for-5 against Texas Woman's and 2-for-3 against Metro State. She is hitting .588 (20-for-34) with four doubles, five homers and 13 RBIs during the stretch. Schaefer has multiple hits in each of her last five games.

- Midwestern State combined for seven home runs in wins over Texas Woman's and Metro State on Saturday. The Mustangs set a school single-season record with 89 homers to better the 86 hit last season.

MSU UNDER BRADY TIGERT
Brady Tigert is in his 11th season at the helm at Midwestern State and is the program's lone head coach since it was resurrected in 2004. The Mustangs have averaged just over 40 wins a year under Tigert, who boasts a 431-202 (.681) record which includes NCAA Division II postseason trips in eight of 10 seasons. MSU finished as national semifinalists in 2011, claimed two regional titles (2010, 2011) and two Lone Star Conference championships (2006, 2007).
