WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The 18th-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs claimed the regular season Lone Star Conference title with a 5-4 win over Cameron Thursday at the MSU Tennis Center.
The Mustangs (18-3, 3-0) earned the top seed in next week's LSC Tournament at the Southlake Tennis Center in Southlake. No. 49 Cameron (16-5, 2-1) is the number two seed and will play the winner of Saturday's Texas A&M-Kingsville at Tarleton State match in the tournament's first round. MSU plays the loser.
The Mustangs swept all three doubles points, then held on with a pair of singles wins to claim their ninth-straight victory.
MSU was paced by the play of sophomore
Kayla Casey, who collected wins in both singles and doubles.
Casey, ranked 33rd in Division II in singles, capped the win for the Mustangs with a 6-2, 6-7 (8-10), 6-2 win over Angie Torres at No. 1 singles.
Casey and
Taylor Coffman, the nation's No. 20 doubles team, beat Paula Gutierrez/Florencia Tornero 8-5 to lead the doubles sweep.
MSU freshman
Paige Boykin was also a two-point winner. After teaming with
Courtney Anderson to beat Magdalena Kovinic/Antonia Moberg 8-4 at No. 3 doubles, Bokyin then ripped Moberg 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles for the Mustangs other singles win.
MSU also collected a win at No. 2 doubles as

Lauren Pineda beat Angie Torres/Samantha Wood 8-4.
The Aggies made it a match by winning four of the singles points, three of them in three sets.
Wood downed Anderson 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3, while Tornero beat Pineda 7-5, 4-6, 6-0 at No. 4 and Kovinic won at No. 6 over
Sydney Briner 0-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Gutierrez beat Coffman 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.
The Mustangs play two more regular season, non-conference matches this weekend at the MSU Tennis Center. On Friday, MSU takes on Washburn at 1 p.m., before hosting Texas-Permian Basin at 2:30.
