No. 18 Mustangs win eighth straight with 7-0 win over Northwest Missouri

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – It was a clean sweep for 18th-ranked Midwestern State as they shutout Northwest Missouri State 7-0 on Saturday at the Cooper Tennis Center at Drury University.

The Mustangs (17-3) ran their winning streak to eight straight with the win over the Bearcats (10-13).

Freshman Paige Boykin helped lead the way for Midwestern, winning all but one game of her two matches.  Boykin won at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-0 over Mara Veasey after teaming with Courtney Anderson to win No. 3 doubles 8-0 against Aniek Kolen/Stephanie Mannix.

Lauren Pineda won at No. 5 singles against Marianne Hull 6-0, 6-1 and teamed with Amy Cliffton to beat Hull/Veasey 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Clifton beat Lorena Rivas at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-0, while Anderson won at No. 4 when leading Mannix 5-0 when she retired.

The Mustangs 20th-ranked doubles tandem of Kayla Casey and Taylor Coffman won the No. 1 doubles point with an 8-2 triumph over Rivas/Alexis Bartek.

However, both Casey's No. 2 singles match with Bartek and Coffman's No. 3 match with Kolen were left unfinished when play was called.

Midwestern returns home to the MSU Tennis Center Monday afternoon for its final Lone Star Conference regular season match.  MSU meets Cameron, both with 2-0 LSC marks, for the regular season conference title and top seed in the LSC Tournament.  First serve Monday is 2 p.m.
