SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The 18th-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs took down 16th ranked Northwest Missouri State 6-3 on Saturday in an inter-regional contest on a neutral court at the Cooper Tennis Center.
The Mustangs (14-6), the top ranked team in the South Central Region bounced back from a loss on Friday with a decisive win against the Central Region's top team in the Bearcats (13-3) snapping NWMSU's three-match win streak.
Midwestern took two of the three doubles contests, then snagged four of the six singles points for the win.
One of the highlights for the Mustangs came at No. 1 singles, where 30th ranked
Kacper Boborykin beat the Bearcats 20th ranked Sergio DeVilchez 6-1, 6-2.
The Mustangs grabbed a win at No. 6 when
Tomas Grejtak beat Hicham Azzaoui 6-3, 6-1.
Jarrod Liston clinched the victory for MSU when he put away Julien Couronne 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5.
Christopher Norrie also added a win for the Mustangs at No. 4 when he was ahead 6-4, 3-3 score when Lluis Altimires retired.
Northwest Missouri got singles points at No. 2 as Romain Boissinot upset 34th ranked
Kyle Davidson 6-1, 6-2, and when Alvaro Riveros won No. 3 over
Ramon Toyos 6-3, 6-4.
The Mustangs held a 2-1 lead after doubles as Boborykin/Davidson won No. 2 against Riverso/Couronne 8-5, and Liston/
Zack Santagate beat Boissinot/Amery Clews 8-2 at No. 3.
Northwest claimed the No. 1 point as 12th ranked DeVilchez/Altimires edged eighth ranked Grejtak/Toyos 8-6.
The Mustangs are on the court again next Thursday when 17th ranked Cameron visits the MSU Tennis Center for a key regional showdown. First serve is at 2 p.m.
