WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The 19th ranked Midwestern State Mustangs extended the best start in school history to 8-0 and grabbed their first Lone Star Conference win of the season as they shutout Texas A&M-Kingsville 9-0 at the MSU Tennis Center.
The closest point of the match came at number one singles, with MSU's
Kayla Casey, ranked 38th nationally, going three sets with A&M-Kingsville's Mariaxi Herrera 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
MSU lost only eight other games within the match to the Javelinas (1-6, 0-1).
Amy Clifton had no trouble with Marija Dimitrovska 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2, while
Lauren Pineda handed Tabata Lua a 6-1, 6-1 defeat at No. 3.
MSU won the last three singles points with 6-0, 6-0 sweeps as
Taylor Coffman won at No. 4 over Eleni Anastasova,
Courtney Anderson took No. 5 against Alexandra Carillo and Madeline Schorlemmer grabbed No. 6 versus Ashlea Rosenbaum.
The Mustangs were just as dominant in doubles, as the No. 1 team of Casey/Coffman ripped Dimitrovska/Herrera 8-3.
MSU shutout the other doubles in 8-0 fashion, with Anderson/Clifton claiming No. 2 over Lua/Rosenbaum and Pineda/Schorlemmer taking No. 3 against Anastasova/Carillo.
The Mustangs are idle until Saturday when they host Newman (Kan.) in a noon match at the MSU Tennis Center.
