No. 17 MSU wins twice in Oklahoma

ADA, Okla. – The No. 17 Midwestern State Mustangs claimed two matches in a decisive manner on Wednesday, beating Seminole State 8-1 and East Central 9-0 at ECU's Mayhue Courts.
 
The Mustangs go to 7-2 on the season.
 
In the morning match against the ITA's third ranked junior college squad, MSU collected wins in spots but No. 2 singles while handing Seminole State it's third loss of the year (5-3).
 
The Mustangs claimed the No. 1 singles spot as Kacper Boborykin, ranked 46th in Division II, beat the second ranked junior college singles player in SSC's Vasil Surduk 6-0, 6-4.
 
At No. 2, SSC's Tendal Tapfuma, ranked third in junior college, beat Division II's 27th ranked Kyle Davidson 6-3, 6-2.
 
MSU's Ramon Toyos won at No. 3 as 25th ranked Tyler Bridges defaulted in the second set.
 
Christopher Norrie beat SSC's Aramis Azucey 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4, with Tomas Grejtak beating Alex Clerihew 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Jarrod Liston downing Mitch Vechione 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
 
In doubles action, MSU's top team of Grejtak/Toyos beat sixth ranked Surduk/Tapfuma 8-6, as Boborykin/Davidson won at No. 2 against Azucey/Clerihew 8-1 and Liston/Santagate took No. 3 against Bridges/Vechione 8-1.
 
In the afternoon, the Mustangs battled deep in singles play but swept East Central 9-0.  The Tigers (4-4) are ranked ninth in Division II's Central region.
 
The top two doubles spots were close, with the Mustangs Grejtak/Toyos beating Andrew Cabato and Julian Caminos 8-5 at No.1, and Boborykin/Davidson outlasting Marc Fillat and Max DeJuan 8-6 at No. 2.  MSU's No. 3 squad of Liston/Santagate shutout Nate Kipping and Stefan Scholdbauer 8-0 for the doubles sweep.
 
The singles featured a pair of three-set points, both going to MSU.
 
Norrie at No. 4 edged Cabato 5-7, 7-6(4), 10-4, with Liston edging Scholdbauer at 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.
 
Boborykin won a pair of tiebreaker sets at No. 1 against Fillat 7-6(2), 7-6(2).
 
Davidson clipped DeJuan 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2, with Toyos over Caminos 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3, and Grejtak downing Kipping 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5.
 
Midwestern returns to the hard court on Saturday, March 15 against Newman (Kan.).  First serve is noon at the MSU Tennis Center.
