WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The 18th-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs got back on the winning track on Thursday, ripping Colorado Mesa 9-0 at the MSU Tennis Center.
The Mustangs (10-3) did not drop a set against the Mavericks (9-8) in the matchup of South Central Region opponents.
MSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles as the 20th ranked duo of
Kayla Casey/
Taylor Coffman rolled at No. 1 over Kaylee Davis/Rachel McLaughlin 8-1, with
Lauren Pineda/
Sydney Briner taking No. 2 against Kristyn Wykert/Shannen McNamara 8-1 and
Courtney Anderson/
Amy Clifton winning No. 3 over Natalie Martin/Katie Kirby 8-2.
The story was much the same in singles for the Mustangs.
Casey, ranked 33rd in singles, picked up the win at No. 2 over Davis 6-2, 6-1, while Clifton took out Martin 6-1, 6-0.
Coffman claimed at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-4 win against McNamara, as Pineda chalked up a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 against McLaughlin.
Paige Boykin beat Kristyn Wykert 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, with Briner scoring a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Kirby.
The Mustangs continue their four matches in four days string on Friday by facing Dallas Baptist in Arlington. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
