PREVIEW: Mustangs welcome Texas A&M-Kingsville for 4-game set

LEADOFF
Midwestern State plays host to Texas A&M-Kingsville for a four-game season Saturday and Sunday at Mustangs Park. The teams play a doubleheader Saturday at 5 and 7 p.m. before closing the weekend with a twin bill on Sunday at noon and 2 p.m.

PROMOTION
The Wichita Falls Teachers Federal Credit Union will be passing out free items at the gate and will throw out "Stache' your Cash" t-shirts into the crowd for each MSU home run this weekend.

SCOUTING THE JAVELINAS
Texas A&M-Kingsville has lost 15 of its last 17 games heading into its weekend series against Midwestern State. The Javelinas lone victories during the stretch have come at the expense of Tarleton State.  TAMUK is 0-7 in road contests this season and 2-7 in Lone Star Conference play. Bailey Offill is the lone Javelina hitting better than .300 this season. The senior second baseman from Van Alstyne is hitting .317 with six double while driving in 12 runs this season. Senior first baseman Adela Gomez is the Hoggies top power threat and leads the squad with 15 RBIs. Freshman Carlie Clark and junior Ariel Kellogg have won three games each for TAMUK in the circle. Texas A&M-Kingsville scores 3.7 runs per game and allows 9.8.

ABOUT THE SERIES
Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Kingsville will meet for the 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th time on the diamond this weekend at Mustangs Park. MSU owns a 15-5 advantage in the series which dates back to the 2004 season. The Mustangs have won the last eight meetings and 12 of the last 13 and are 4-1 against the Hoggies in Wichita Falls.

THREE...DOT...THOUGHTS...
Midwestern State extended its winning streak to five games and has now won nine of its last 10 after claiming victories over Tarleton State and Eastern New Mexico last weekend in the LSC Showcase… The Mustangs improved to 19-9 on the season while moving to 7-1 to remain tied at the top of the league with Angelo State… The Mustangs continue to lead the league with 47 homers in 28 games while averaging 7.4 runs per game… The Mustangs pitching staff has posted a 2.11 ERA allowing 19 earned runs on 53 hits in 63 innings over the last 10 games… MSU senior catcher Kim Jerrick connected on her 50th career home run Thursday night against Tarleton State. She needs seven more homers to overtake former West Texas A&M standout Kim LeComte, who hit 56 homer from 2009-12…

MSU UNDER BRADY TIGERT
Brady Tigert is in his 11th season at the helm at Midwestern State and is the program's lone head coach since it was resurrected in 2004. The Mustangs have averaged just over 40 wins a year under Tigert, who boasts a 420-189 (.690) record which includes NCAA Division II postseason trips in eight of 10 seasons. MSU finished as national semifinalists in 2011, claimed two regional titles (2010, 2011) and two Lone Star Conference championships (2006, 2007).

LOOKING AHEAD
Midwestern State squares off with Angelo State next weekend in San Angelo. The teams play a doubleheader on Friday night at 5 and 7:30 p.m. then battle in another twinbill Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m.
