No. 19 Mustangs go to 7-0 on Saturday

ABILENE, Texas – The 19th ranked Midwestern State Mustangs got a pair of shutout victories Saturday to extend their winning streak to seven straight.
 
The Mustangs won at Hardin-Simmons 9-0 in morning play, then ventured over to McMurry and posted a similar 9-0 triumph.
 
The Mustangs did not drop a set in going to 7-0 to start the season.
 
MSU lost only one game in doubles action in the morning match against Hardin-Simmons (0-2).
 
MSU's Courtney Anderson and Amy Clifton won at No. 2 over Hannah and Jenna Smith 8-1.
 
The No. 1 team of Kayla Casey and Taylor Coffman beat Genene Haddad and Jasmine Briant 9-0, the same as MSU's No. 3 team of Lauren Pineda and Madeline Schorlemmer over Alynna Phouthakhio and Kacie Berutti.
 
The sweep in singles started with 38th ranked Kayla Casey beating Haddad 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1, with Pineda downing Hannah Smith 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 and Coffman ripping Jenna Smith 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.
 
Anderson won easily at No. 4 against Briant 6-1, 6-0, as Sydney Briner used the same score to beat Phouthakhio at No. 5.  Paige Boykin shutout Berutti 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
 
The match in the afternoon at McMurry (0-3) wasn't much different.
 
The Mustangs top duo of Casey/Coffman had the closest point of the match, beating Lauren Renner and Shayne Cook 8-4 at No. 1.
 
MSU got shutouts at the other doubles spots with Pineda/Schorlemmer winning at No. 2 against Jessica Bentley and Bree Brosig 8-0, and Anderson/Clifton repeating the score against Madison Hathorn and Chloe Patterson at No. 3.
 
MSU lost only seven games total in singles play against the War Hawks.
 
Casey won 6-1, 6-0 over Renner at No. 1, Clifton handled Cook 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 and Pineda beat Chloe Patterson 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.
 
Anderson took out Bentley 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, Briner beat Allie Hawkins 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 and Boykin handled Autumn Patterson 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
 
The regionally top-ranked Mustangs return to action on Wednesday to open Lone Star Conference play when they visit Stephenville to face No. 26 Tarleton State, ranked third in the region, in a 2 p.m. match.
