No. 16 Mustangs make progress in 9-0 rout of UA-Fort Smith

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 16-ranked Midwestern State flexed its depth in a 9-0 blanking of Arkansas-Fort Smith Saturday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.

"Our guys were very professional today and very focused," MSU coach Scott Linn said. "The guys did a really good job of riding it out and getting ready to play the next point. We took a step forward today."

It was the ninth-straight home win for the Mustangs who improved to 3-2 on the season.

Midwestern hits the road to take on East Central (Okla.) Wednesday in Ada. First serve is set for 10:30 a.m. The Mustangs play Seminole State (Okla.) later that afternoon.

Junior Tomas Grejtak teamed with freshman Ramon Toyos, while junior Jarrod Liston and sophomoer Zack Santagate combined for 8-1 wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles, respectively.

Sophomore Kyle Davidson and junior Kacper Boborykin took an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles to give the Mustangs a doubles' sweep.

It didn't get better for Arkansas-Fort Smith from there as the Lions fell to 1-4 by taking straight-set losses at each singles' position.

Davidson played for the first time at the No. 1 line in place of Boborykin taking a 6-2, 6-1 win over Chris Ramirez.

"KB  (Boborykin) has been excellent for us at No. 1 singles, but we feel like we need to go at least eight deep to be successful," Linn said. "Austin Crawford came in and played well for us."

Crawford, a 6-2 sophomore from Maumelle, Ark., claimed a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Caleb Gunsch at No. 6 allowing everyone else to play up a spot for the Mustangs as Toyos beat Jesse Green 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2, freshman Christopher Norrie upended Sean Manning 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3, Grejtak ripped Matt Tabler 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 and Liston claimed a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Ryan Heslop at No. 5.
