WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State coach
Scott Linn got the start and finish he wanted in a 9-0 win over Metroplitan State Friday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.
"We finished very well today, but we could be a little more consistent playing our style of tennis," he said. " You always like to start strong and finish strong. We really did that at every spot."
The win snapped a two-game skid for the Mustangs, who evened their season mark at 2-2. MSU plays host to Arkansas-Fort Smith Saturday morning at the MSU Tennis Center. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
Ramon Toyos definitely filled the strong start, strong finish mantra Friday afternoon as he rolled to a 6-3 first-set win over Nick Baker at No. 3 singles. The freshman from Torrelavega, Spain then had to climb out of a 5-2 hole to claim the last five games to take the straight set victory.
Toyos also teamed with junior
Tomas Grejtak to battle for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles to set the tone for the Mustangs as
Kyle Davidson and
Kacper Boborykin earned an 8-1 victory at No. 2 and
Jarrod Liston and
Zack Santagate rolled 8-2 for an MSU doubles' sweep.
Davidson, a 6-1 sophomore from Garland, battled back from a set down to claim a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Adrien Delvaux at No. 2.
No. 1 Boborykin (6-3, 7-5), No. 4 Christopher Norrie (6-2, 6-1), No. 5 Grejtak (6-0, 6-0) and No. 6 Liston (6-1, 6-2) all claimed straight-set wins for the Mustangs.
Metropolitan State slipped to 3-2 on the season.
