WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Chelsey Wall drove in a career-high seven runs to lead Midwestern State to a 14-2 run-rule win over Northeastern State Saturday morning in the Holiday Inn at the Falls Invitational at Mustangs Parks.
The sophomore from Keller crushed her second grand slam in the first inning and stroked a three-run double to center field as the Mustangs scored seven runs in the first and fourth innings to improve to 7-4 on the season.
MSU closes tournament play Sunday afternoon against Rogers State. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
The Mustangs sent 10 hitters to the plate in the opening frame as
Kelley Schaefer,
Shelby Carter and
Jennifer Quintero had run-scoring singles to set up Wall's second homer of the of the year to cap the seven-run, six-hit inning.
It was Wall's second career grand slam with her first coming in a 17-8 win over Tarleton State on April 13, 2014.
Wall extended her hitting streak to seven games hitting .545 (12-for-22) with doubles and a home run during the streak.
Fellow sophomore
Haley Howerton extended her hitting streak to eight games by going 2-for-3 with a pair of bunt singles. She is hitting .552 (16-for-29) during the streak.
Freshman
Erin Knox limited the RiverHawks to a pair of runs on six hits with three strikeouts to improve to 3-2 on the season.
The Mustangs sent 12 batters to the plate to put the game away with seven runs and six hits in the fourth inning highlighted Wall's three-run double to go along with a two-run single by
Katelyn Vinson and a pinch-hit single by
Baylee Voigt.
Kim Jerrick, Howerton, Vinson and Wall paced the Mustangs' 13-hit attack with two hits each.
Northeastern State fell to 2-5 on the season.
