Oklahoma Christian returns its top two offensive threats from last season's squad which posted a 22-22 mark. Junior shortstop Kendra Pierce hit .418 with 22 doubles and five homers, while senior catcher/first baseman Martha Thomas hit .374 with 14 doubles and 10 homers. Junior Taylor Mosher is the top returner in the circle posting an 8-5 record with a 4.66 ERA in the circle.

SCOUTING THE HILLCATS
Senior outfielder Candace Monigold returns to lead Rogers State (Okla.) which posted a 40-19 record last season advancing to the NAIA Championships last season. Monigold hit .433 with 17 doubles, three triples and nine homers while driving in 50 runs. Senior pitcher Yolando Rios is the lone returner in the circle where she posted a 9-0 record with a 1.31 ERA with 50 strikeouts and 17 walks while allowing two homers and a .214 opponent batting average in 58 2/3 innings. Rios was also productive at the plate hit .424 in 33 at bats with four doubles, a triple and a homers driving in 11 runs.

SCOUTING THE MULERIDERS
Southern Arkansas posted a 4-2 mark at the season opening West Florida Spring Invitational in Pensacola, Fla. The Muleriders claimed a doubleheader sweep of Shorter (Ga.) and had wins over host West Florida and Midwestern State. SAU dropped two games to No. 6-ranked Valdosta State in between. Freshman Shelby Miller leads the Muleriders hitting .435 with two double, a triple and two homers while driving in six runs. Sophomore Taylor Guin is hitting .389 as well as junior Sarah Higginbotham with three doubles, a homer and three RBIs. Freshman Brooke Goad is SAU's top power threat hitting .333 with three long balls. the Mulerider are hitting .311 as a team and scoring 7.2 runs per game. Southern Arkansas has struggled to an 8.10 team ERA in the circle.

Midwestern State and Southern Arkansas meet for the 11th time on the diamond Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park. The Mustangs own an 8-2 edge in the series which dates back to the 2004 season. MSU won the first eight meetings between the teams, but the Muleriders have won the last two.

Southern Arkansas outlasted Midwestern State 22-17 in the finale of the West Florida Spring Tournament on Feb. 3. The teams combined for 10 homers with the Mustangs clubbing a team single-game record six including two from senior catcher

Vandewater matched a school record with five hits while the Mustangs set another single game team standard with 21 hits of their own.

SCOUTING THE RIVERHAWKS
Northeastern State dropped two of three at the season opening Tarleton State Invitational last weekend in Stephenville. Senior outfielder Madison Reed blistered the ball at a 7-for-10 clip (.700) over the weekend with a double while stealing three bases. Freshman infielder Madison Boyd went 5-for-9 to hit .556 to lead the way for the Riverhawks. NSU is hitting .286 as a team while scoring 4.6 runs per game. Northeastern State posted a team ERA of 4.33 while allowing 5.3 runs per contest.

Midwestern State and Northeastern State meet for the 32nd and 33rd time on the diamond this weekend at Mustangs Park. The Mustangs own a commanding 28-3 edge in the series that dates back to the 2005 season. The Mustangs have won the last 14 meetings between the teams and are 14-1 against the RiverHawks in games played in Wichita Falls.
LAST TIME OUT AGAINST NSU
Midwestern State erupted for a nine runs in the third inning on the way to a 14-0 run-rule win in five innings on March 3, 2013 at Mustangs Park. MSU erupted for 15 hits as

MSU UNDER BRADY TIGERT
Brady Tigert is in his 11th season at the helm at Midwestern State and is the program's lone head coach since it was resurrected in 2004. The Mustangs have averaged just over 40 wins a year under Tigert, who boasts a 404-182 (.689) record which includes NCAA Division II postseason trips in eight of 10 seasons. MSU finished as national semifinalists in 2011, claimed two regional titles (2010, 2011) and two Lone Star Conference championships (2006, 2007).
MUSTANGS PICKED THIRD IN LSC PRESEASON POLL
Midwestern State was picked third in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll. The Mustangs received 146 points and a first-place vote to settle in behind defending champion Texas Woman's (166 points, 13 first-place votes) and West Texas A&M (159 points, 8 first-place votes). Angelo State (145 points, 2 first-place votes) was picked fourth followed by Tarleton State (95), Cameron (76), Eastern New Mexico (40) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (37). TWU's Katie Hines and Brandie Lander were selected preseason player and pitcher of the year, respectively.
TRUE HORSEPOWER
Midwestern State set numerous hitting records in 2013 and finished the campaign second in NCAA Division II in team batting average (.359), second in home runs per game (1.43), second in team slugging percentage (.578) and sixth in scoring (7.45 runs per game). The seven MSU returners accounted for 69 of the 86 home runs to go along with a combined batting average of .380.
