Mustangs stretches it to 5, but falls to A&M-Kingsville

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State fought off a match point in the fourth set and appeared poised to run at its fourth five-set win of the season Saturday afternoon against Texas A&M-Kingsville at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
But the Javelinas used a 5-1 run to take control of the decisive set to come away with a 20-25, 25-16, 31-29, 25-27, 15-11 Lone Star Conference win to improve to 11-5 on the season while leveling their league mark at 4-4.
 
Junior outside hitter Hunter Porter matched a season with 15 kills with an efficient .351 hitting percentage, but it was wasn't enough to keep Midwestern from falling to 5-12 and 1-6.
 
The Mustangs threatened to take a 2-1 edge and held two set points in the third set, but were ultimately done in by a service error and one of Kairy Huebel's three service aces to allow the Javelinas to grasp the advantage 31-29.
 
Behind Porter's six kills, MSU extended the match to five by taking the fourth set 27-25.
 
Junior outside hitter Nicole Marzik notched her 10th double-double of the season finishing with 12 kills and 10 digs, while senior Kat Molloy and redshirt-freshman Angel Summer each finished with seven kills and three total blocks out of the middle blocker position.
 
Sophomore Sarah Garfield chipped in eight kills and five blocks, while freshman Addison Semer had six kills and three blocks as the Mustangs finished with a total of 10 total team stuffs.
 
Senior libero Casey Fletcher paced back row effort with 22 digs, while sophomore Madelyn Johnson recorded her second consecutive double-digit effort with 19 digs.
 
Sophomore setter Sarah Rosinke delivered a 43-assist, 7-dig stat line while leading the Mustangs to a .181 team hitting percentage.
 
Sophomore Ashley Bukowski paced Texas A&M-Kingsville with a match-high 20 kills, while senior Kelsey Washington and sophomore Shaquinn Parker had 15 kills each.
 
Midwestern State continues a four-match home stand by playing host to Eastern New Mexico on Friday and West Texas A&M on Saturday at Ligon Coliseum.
