LUBBOCK, Texas -- Lubbock Christian used a strong service and attacking performance to roll to a 25-27, 25-12, 25-19, 25-14 win over Midwestern State Friday night at Rip Griffin Center.
The Mustangs, who have dropped 11 of their last 12, return to D.L. Ligon Coliseum Saturday to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville in a return to Lone Star Conference play. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
Junior outside hitter
Nicole Marzik got off to a quick start putting down seven of her team-high 13 kills in the opening frame while
Sarah Garfield,
Addison Semer and
Angel Summers keyed five total blocks as Midwestern fought for a 27-25 win.
But the Chaps fought off a sluggish .068 team hitting percentage in the opening set to blitz MSU with a .363 kill rate over the final three sets to improve to 9-1 on the season.
Junior right-side hitter Maddie Johnson paced LCU with a match-high 19 kills while freshman outside hitter Channing Castleberry struck for 16 kills and junior middle blocker Amy Edwards chipped in 10.
The Chaps also took advantage at the service line as freshmen Malori Maddox and Samantha Matthews combined for five of their seven service aces.
Edwards got her hands on five of LCU's eight total team blocks as the Chaps limited MSU to a .170 team attack percentage.
Marzik capped off her ninth double-double of the season with 13 digs, while junior outside hitter
Hunter Porter finished with 11 kills and two blocks.
Summers and Garfield each finished with nine kills and four total blocks, while senior libero
Casey Fletcher finished with a match-high 18 digs.
Sophomore setter
Sarah Rosinke finished with 41 set assists and seven digs.
