The Weekend
Midwestern State faces an important battle with St. Edward's Friday night at the MSU Soccer Field before closing the weekend against Rogers State (Okla.) on Sunday

Scouting the Hilltoppers
St. Edward's (1-1-1) has proven to be a dynamic scoring threat this season tallying nine goals through its first three matches, but the Hilltoppers have just one win to show for it. SEU surrendered a pair of second half goals to succumb to No. 19 Colorado Mines 2-1 in its opener then let in a goal in the final minute of regulation before settling for a 3-3 draw against Fort Lewis. The Hilltoppers rebounded to rip Metro State 5-2 last weekend in Denver. Seven different players have found the back of the net already for the Hilltoppers led by junior midfielder Andrew Fox and junior forward Daniel Riley, who have accounted two goals each.

About the Series
Midwestern State and St. Edward's meet for the 33rd time on the pitch Friday night at the MSU Soccer Field. The Mustangs own a 25-3-4 edge in the series that dates back to 1987. The teams have played to scoreless draws in each of the last two meetings.

Scouting the Hillcats
Rogers State carries a 1-2 mark into Sunday's match against Midwestern State pending the result of the Hillcats' outcome Friday night at Oral Roberts. Sophomore defender Kaspars Kokis and junior midfielder Niall Masterson accounted for goals in a 2-1 win over Ouachita Baptist while sophomore forward Danko Kenjic tallied the Hillcats' lone score in a 2-1 loss to John Brown.

About the Series
Midwestern State and Rogers State will meet for the first time on the pitch Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field.

Mustangs on Unfamiliar Ground
Midwestern State suffered consecutive defeats in its opening two games this season for the first time since the 1986 squad dropped results to Chapman and Truman at the Far West Classic in San Diego, Calif. That team rebounded to advance to the NAIA National Tournament. This season, the Mustangs suffered tough losses to Fort Lewis (3-1) and Colorado Mines (1-0) before recovering for a 4-1 win last weekend at Colorado State-Pueblo.

Five Player in Scoring Mix
Five different players tallied single goals for the Mustangs this season with junior forward Chase Robertson leading the way with a goal and an assist. Junior midfielder Andrew Power, senior midfielder B.A. Catney, sophomore midfielder Idi Camara and junior forward Dan Johns have also scored for MSU. Johns tallied another goal Sunday at Colorado-Colorado Springs but the match was called prior to the 70-minute mark due to lightning.

Eligwe, Smith Looking for More
The striker combination of senior VcMor Eligwe and junior Len Smith accounted for 17 of MSU's 36 goals a season ago, but the duo has just one assist between them through the opening three games of the 2013 campaign. Eligwe, who became just the 38th member of the program's 50-point Club last season, gained second-team All-LSC honors in 2012 while Smith was named the LSC's Newcomer of the Year after transferring in from Tulsa.

Looking Ahead
Midwestern State plays host to Newman (Kan.) Tuesday night at the MSU Soccer Field before embarking on a tough four-match road stretch beginning with Texas A&M International on Sunday, Sep. 29 in Laredo.
