Midwestern State (41-14) rolls into the postseason with wins in 17 of its last 20 games including a three-game sweep of Tarleton State in Stephenville back on April 12 and 13.

The Mustangs are paced by a quartet of All-Lone Star Conference first-team performers headlined by Freshman of the Year Katelyn Vinson, who is enjoying one of the best offensive campaigns in league history.

Vinson ranks fifth in NCAA Division II with a .513 average and is second in the nation with a 1.007 slugging percentage. The Southlake native ranks third in NCAA III with 21 homers while driving in 63 runs.

She is just the third player in the past 20 years to finish the regular season with a .500 batting average and is challenging the LSC's all-time single season mark of .517 set by East Central's Cherene Hiesl in 1997.

Junior catcher Kim Jerrick ranks fourth in the nation with 19 homers while driving in 54 runs from the leadoff spot. The Belle Plaine, Kan. native ranks seventh nationally with .573 on-base percentage and is second to Vinson in the LSC with a .436 batting average.

Sophomore third baseman Kelley Schaefer gives the Mustangs a clean sweep of the top three hitters in the league hitting .426 with six doubles, 12 homers and is second in the LSC with 67 RBIs.

Senior outfielder Courtney Bingham takes on a .392 average leading the league with 22 doubles with five triples, four homers and 59 RBIs.

Midwestern is paced in the circle by freshman Laci Belovsky who is second in NCAA Division II in wins while sporting a 25-7 mark. The Grangerland native tossed an LSC-best seven shutouts this season while posting a 3.22 ERA.

Tarleton State (26-22) swept its way past Incarnate Word last weekend in Stephenville to swipe the No. 5-seed away from the Cardinals.

Second-team All-LSC performer Arianna Rodriguez leads the TexAnns. The senior shortstop hits .369 with nine doubles and eight homers while driving in 41 runs, while All-LSC third-teamer Melody Mayse hits .349 with 10 doubles, seven triples and four homers from the leadoff position. The center fielder is also a perfect 16-of-16 on stolen base opportunities.

Junior Randi Fentress leads TSU in the circle with a 13-14 mark and a 3.37 ERA, while sophomore Brenna Hennan is 12-7 with a 3.87 ERA.

Midwestern State is 18-14 in 10 Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament appearances, but is 4-0 all-time against the TexAnns in tournament play. The Mustangs have won their last seven against Tarleton State and 11 of the last 12 meetings.

MSU is going for its 400th program win Friday since reviving the softball program in 2004.
