24th ranked Mustangs win third straight with 7-2 triumph over No. 39 Southwest Baptist

BOLIVAR, Mo. – No. 24 Midwestern State won its fourth straight Saturday afternoon as the Mustangs beat No. 39 Southwest Baptist 7-2 at the SBU Tennis Courts.

The Mustangs (15-5) have won nine of their last ten matches, while handing the Bearcats (7-6) their second loss in their last three matches.

"I was happy with the way we played today," said MSU coach Scott Linn.  "We played fundamentally solid tennis against a team that is used to winning, especially at home."

"We got into some tight situations today where we needed  to turn the match, and our guys stayed locked in and didn't get too emotional.  It let us make adjustments."

The Mustangs grabbed two of the three doubles points, but lost at No. 1 as Domingos Carissmo and Omar El Kheshen beat No. 9 Luke Joyce and Colby Meeks 9-7.

Carissmo, ranked 35th by the ITA, beat No. 44 Joyce 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles for the Bearcats only other point.

The Mustangs triumphed at all the other spots.

Kacper Bobobrykin and Tomas Grejtak won at No. 2 doubles over Daniel Cardona and Alex Belote 8-3, and Kyle Davidson and Austin Crawford were successful at No. 3 with an 8-1 win over Guido Margiotta and Jordan Ward.

Boborykin also won at No. 4 singles over Belote 6-3, 6-2.

"Kacper played great for us this weekend," said Linn.  "We asked him to play doubles, something he hasn't been doing for us, and he stepped it up.  It's a challenge to play both singles and doubles, and he came through for us."

Davidson also won a big point at No. 2, with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over SBU's El Kheshen.

MSU completed the sweep with Franko Siljeg's 6-2, 6-3 win against Margiotta at No. 5, and Crawford's 6-1, 6-4 win against Ward at No. 6.

The Mustangs end the regular season next weekend when they host St. Edward's for Senior Day on Sunday, April 14.  First serve at the MSU Tennis Center is 1 p.m.
