Vinson hits 21st, Bingham drives in 4 in MSU's 9-1 win over Abilene Christian

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Katelyn Vinson's connected for her 21st home run and Courtney Bingham drove in four runs to lead No. 17-ranked Midwestern State to a 9-1 run-rule win over Abilene Christian Friday night at Poly Wells Field.

The Mustangs claimed their 40th win of the season against 13 losses. MSU has won 12 of its last 13 to move to 17-8 in Lone Star Conference play.

Freshman Laci Belovsky weaved a three-hitter with three strikeouts and no walks to earn her Lone Star Conference leading 24th win.

And Vinson extended another streak in the fourth when she greeted ACU reliever Shelby Hall with a three-run, opposite field blast to right to build upon her program single season record.

It was the 25th consecutive game that an MSU player has connected for a home run. Then Kelley Schaefer tacked on her 12th round-tripper of the season on the next pitch as part of a six-run top of the fourth for the Mustangs.

Bingham drove in runs in three consecutive plate appearances in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

The senior from Arlington plated Carey Campbell with the first run of the contest with a single to left field. Campbell led off the third with a double to the left-field gap.

ACU countered with their only run of the game in the bottom of the inning as Belovsky hit Wildcat leadoff hitter Keanna Winkfield with a 1-0 pitch. Winkfield stole second and came around to score on Lyndi Smith's single to right field to tie the game.

Bingham drilled a bases loaded two-run single through the right side of the ACU infield in the fourth to knock Wildcat starter Payton Mosley out of the game. Mosley took the loss to fall to 5-9 on the season. She allowed five runs - all earned - on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Vinson and Schaefer followed with first-pitch homers off of Hall.

Bingham drove in the run-rule clincher in the fifth on an infield single. She paced MSU's 11-hit attack with by going 3-for-4 while junior catcher Kim Jerrick joined Vinson with two hits each.

Midwestern State and Abilene Christian close out the regular season with a doubleheader Saturday at Poly Wells Field. First pitches are set for noon and 2 p.m.
